CASCADES 2000 |
| A PROJECTED
VIDEO ENVIRONMENT BY STEINA |
Cascades was conceived in close
collaboration with Sissu Palsdottir, who is responsible
for the arrangement of the projection space. Cascades
premiered in a 1999 exhibition titled Millennium
Architecture in Gerdarsafn, Iceland.
“Whether on purpose or by accident, the
darkened space reminds considerably Kurt Schwitter’s
Merzbau. The work is so to say a cave which is
made of styrofoam that assumes sculptural composition
in space as well as being the screens for Steina’s
projections. Flooding the cubical objects of white
plastic are moving images, some in focus, while
others float as abstract color patterns.
In addition, the biological system that reminds
the borderless horizon and never ending history,
confirms the title Millennium Architecture. This
show in its lofty lightness and experimental spirit
seems to be paying a tribute to eternity, the
signature of this exhibit as we approach a new
millennium”. |
